Tutorials » Dark Blue Portfolio Layout v1
Step 1

As usual, create a new document 800x800px. Firstly we are going to be doing the background, fill your first layer with the colour #aed0e4. Create a new layer named 'bg top' and make a selection of 800x250px at the top of your document and fill your selection with a gradient from #323232 to #121212, add a Stroke to this layer to help define it from the light blue colour.

Step 2

Now we are going to add another background layer to include all of our text and images etc - something to hold it together as such. Create a new layer named 'main bg' and make a selection using the Rounded Rectangular Marquee Tool about 740x700px in the middle of your document. Fill the selection with the colour #252525. Add the blending options Outer Glow, Inner Glow and Stroke to this layer.

Step 3

Create a text layer and add in the title of your portfolio, the font that I have used here is Impact, Regular, 36pt, Sharp, #ffffff (doesn't matter what colour you use because we are going to be adding a gradient overlay soon). Apply an Outer Glow, Gradient Overlay and Stroke blending options to this layer.

Step 4

Create another new text layer and add in some subtitle text or something underneath your title. The font that I have chosen to use here is Arial, Regular, 11pt, SHarp, #ffffff, layer's Blend Mode: Overlay.

Step 5

Create a new layer named 'main bg2', this is where we are going to be putting the main content etc. Make a selection of about 680x500px using the Rounded Rectangular Tool inside your 'main bg' area, with equal margins on the left, right and bottom. Fill the selection with #181819. Add a Inner Glow blending option to this layer.

Step 6

Create a new layer named 'nav bg' and make 4 selections using the Rectangular Marquee Tool for the navigation. Fill the selection with a gradient from #353535 to #181819. Apply an Outer Glow and a Gradient Overlay.

Step 7

Create a new text layer and add in some text links, the font that I have chosen for this is a pixel font because they are small and clear, Visitor -BRK-, Regular, 11pt, None, #ffffff.

Step 8

Now we are going to some fill-in content, for the headers the font that I have used is Arial, Bold, 14pt, Sharp, #00a0fd. For the main content I have used Arial, Regular, 12pt, None, #ffffff (#00a0fd and underlined some words for a bit of contrast - link style).

Step 9

Lastly we are going to just add some latest works images, add in some images of some work that you have done lately, and add a Stroke to help the images not blend in too much.
