Step 1
First off, if your not making your navigation onto a template, you should create a new canvas at 350px by 45px with a background color of #FFFFFF. first off, select your gradiant tool and make yourself a background gradiant. for mine, i will be starting from the top, and making a gradiant that goes from #F6F6F6 to #CCD0D2.

Step 2
Next we will be making an indention on the top to give it more of a clean look. create a new layer. Press D on your keyboard to reset your colors to #000000 and #FFFFFF. Select your single row marquee tool and zoom into the top of your canvas. Press ALT+Backspace on your keyboard then press the down arrow, and press CTRL+Backspace. if you have done this correctly you shouldn ow have a black line going all the way across the top of your canvas, with a whilte line below that.

Step 3
Now select your rounded rectangular shape tool set your radius to about 4px and create a rectangle that is about 30px tall, and about 75px wide. this should have created a new shape layer. right click on this layer and click on rasterize layer. now press CTRL+Click on the shape layer, create a new layer and delete the shape layer. inside our selection fill with a gradiant starting at #ABABAB on the top, and ending with #FBFBFB on the bottom.

Step 4
Next follow the same steps as before only tis time make the gradiant going from #EBEBEB to #6E6E70, only this time make it smaller than the one before by 1px so it will look like it is inside the other.

Step 5
Follow these steps one last time, only this time, instead of filling our selection with a gradiant in a new layer, fill it with a solid color of #EEF0EF. do a little bit of work with your burn tool to make the bottom of this layer a little darker in some parts like around the bottom sides. make sure not to overdo it though!

Step 6
Now make a new layer and select your rectangluar marquee tool. make a selection of the upper half of our button that we have so far and fill this with #F7F7F7.

Step 7
Next we will addthe links. for my links i used Tahoma at 11 pt and make it bold. my text is #3B3B3B but if your have something that you think looks better, feel free to use it.

This is my final effect. you can always change it to fit your needs. Dont be afraid to work on it more and make it more of your own than just a tutorial. I hope this tutorial has been helpful and that you have learned how to successfully create a clean red navigation.
